Planet Over Profit

The world's natural resources are being exploited to make vast numbers of everyday products, from chicken produced by soy-fed animals to soaps and food made with palm oil.

Many companies involved in these global supply chains are responsible for large scale environmental destruction. Alongside this go human rights abuses, particularly for people in poorer countries. These communities bear the brunt of deforestation, land grabbing and displacement, while global corporations reap the profits.

Many of us are conscious about the choices we make but it is difficult see the impact of what we buy. Do you, for instance, check whether a product contains palm oil?

We at NFFoE are focussing on palm oil. We are looking out for local producers who have said ‘no’ to palm oil. So our first shout out goes to The Tinker’s Granddaughter in Lymington and to Cook who have recently taken action when they discovered that their best selling chilli puffs contained palm oil.

This is why Friends of the Earth are calling for a new UK law that requires companies to avoid harm to people and planet in their supply chains.
